Focus on the Lord

The Scriptures exhort us to hold Jesus before us at all times.
Repeatedly centring ourselves in Him.
Fixing our gaze & fastening our thoughts on our Lord & Saviour.

And the man said to me, “Son of man, look with your eyes and hear with your ears,
and fix your mind on everything I show you; for you were brought here so that I might show them to you.
Declare to the house of Israel everything you see.” Ezekiel 40:4

In this Scripture the prophet Ezekiel is encouraged to exercise his spiritual senses in the midst of receiving a prophetic vision & message.
Note how he is instructed to fix his mind on what he is being shown.
Our minds (spiritual & physical) need fixing & fastening securely as they have such a tendency to drift off!!
If yours is anything like mine it does so frequently!!
It is the same message to us again – Be Attentive.
Setting our hearts to be attentive unto the Lord & attentive to all he has to show us & say to us.

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:1-3

Again in this second Scripture we are to set our minds upon Christ.
How do we set our hearts & minds?
It is a little like focusing a camera or telescope lens.
Turning & tuning the focus on the lens so that we Zoom in on the object.
Making the minute adjustments until we get the clearest, sharpest picture.
Spiritually we are to Zoom in on Jesus, to get that ‘close up’ view.

We need to be looking up & unto Christ. To be heavenly minded & focused.
Unless I have a vision of heaven how can I help, & be used, to bring heaven to the earth (Matthew 6:10).
Until I am captivated by Christ & have heavenly vision & values then I am no earthly use!!
Fixing & fastening our gaze, minds & hearts on King Jesus & his kingdom is key (Matthew 6:33).
So important we daily exercise our spiritual senses to Zoom in upon Jesus.
Keep turning to, & keep tuning in to, Jesus.
May He alone truly fill our gaze, lay hold of our minds & captivate our hearts.

For Reflection:

  • What can I adjust to better Zoom in ‘up close’ to Jesus?
  • Where do my spiritual senses need a little bit more of a ‘workout’?
  • Mediate upon the differing spiritual senses you have been given.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Through the power of Your indwelling Spirit,
Help me to more accurately Zoom in upon Jesus.
Teach & train me to diligently exercise & daily use my spiritual senses,
To ‘focus in’ & achieve that up close & personal experience & encounter.
In Jesus mighty name,
Amen.
