We are in a part of the year where we do a lot of remembering.
Last weekend in the UK we remembered the Gunpowder Plot & later this week we will mark Remembrance Day. The people of God are repeatedly encouraged to remember the Lord & all he has done for them.

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,
Before the difficult days come,
And the years draw near when you say,
“I have no pleasure in them”:

Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed,
Or the golden bowl is broken,
Or the pitcher shattered at the fountain,
Or the wheel broken at the well.
Then the dust will return to the earth as it was,
And the spirit will return to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:1 & 6-7

Solomon, through his wisdom, exhorts the people of God to remember their Creator.
Whether young or old, at every stage of life, they are to be mindful of the Lord who created them. Keep remembering, & never forget, that you are fearfully & wonderfully created by the Lord (Psalm 139:13-16).

And Moses said to the people: “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten. Exodus 13:3

Moses commands the people of God to remember their Redeemer. How God rescued them from the oppression & bondage of slavery in Egypt. How they were miraculously set free. They were to do things to help them keep remembering that great salvation (Deuteronomy 5:15; 8:2, 18). Joshua set up memorial stones by the River Jordan as a constant sign & reminder of all that God had done for the people (Joshua 4). They were always to remember & never forget.

God through His abundant goodness, grace & mercy is our Creator & Redeemer.
In His great love ‘In Christ’ He has rescued us from sin & death & set us free from the power of evil. We have so much to keep remembering about Him.

For Reflection

  • What can I do to actively remember of all God has done for me?
  • What, who & where are my memorial stones?
  • Mediate upon the Lord our Creator & Redeemer.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Creator & Redeemer,
Through the power of Your indwelling Spirit,
Help me to be constantly remembering all You have done for me.
May the attitude of gratitude flow freely from my thankful heart,
In the mighty name of Jesus,
