Remember

This week we have been exploring some of the things we are are instructed to keep remembering as God’s children.
Christ’s once & for all sacrifice is to be remembered through a special meal.
A meal where we we are helped, strengthened, healed & made more whole as we meet with the Risen Christ.
Through that encounter we are sent out as His witnesses through the power of the Spirit.

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying,
“This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. Luke 22:19-20

As Jesus redefines the Passover meal around Himself He instructs His disciples to partake of the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of Him.
The Greek word (anamnesis) used here carries roots of calling to remembrance but also the injunction of not forgetting who we are.
We remember all that Christ did for us & at the same time we remember who we are because of what He has done for us.
Our identity is bound up in Him. We are ‘in Christ’.
In summary – saints, sons & daughters, servants & soldiers. AMAZING!

There are so many different voices shouting & whispering to us & telling us who we are or what to do.
Only one voice matters – our Heavenly Father’s. The audience of one is the key.
We need to train ourselves to hear & heed His tender still small voice (1 Kings 19:12) & then instruct our hearts to hold tight what He says about us.
Always remember & never forget who you are as a child of God & what your Heavenly Father says about you.

We are a people set free by Christ’s great sacrifice (John 8:36; Galatians 5:1).
We are a people with a powerful identity ‘In Christ’.
Identity & the image of God within humanity are under ferocious attack in these last days.
That is why it is so important we keep remembering who we are.
Stay strong in Your blood bought identity ‘In Christ’ as it was purchased at such great price.

For Reflection

  • Am I secure in my identity in Christ?
  • Do I truly believe I am who God says I am?
  • Mediate upon the incredible identity you have ‘In Christ’.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the incredible identity I have ‘In Christ’.
Through the power of the indwelling Spirit help me to keep calling to remembrance who I am.
Help me to listen to Your voice above all other voices & to truly believe who You say I am.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
Amen.
