Watchmen on the Walls
As the take up out allotted stations as spiritual sentries we get to meet with the Lord.
Habakkuk met with the Lord during his work as the watchman upon the walls.
Watching & waiting we too will meet with the Lord in our spiritual workplace.
That workplace is the battleground (warzone) of prayer & intercession for people, places & this planet.
I will climb up to my watchtower
and stand at my guardpost.
There I will wait to see what the Lord says
and how he will answer my complaint. Habakkuk 2:1-2 NLT
Habakkuk takes his place upon the walls which are also the battlements of the city.
The walls providing shelter for the people within & a shield against the enemy outside.
Habakkuk is aware of the constant vigilance necessary in watching upon the walls.
We too are in a constant battle. This world & man himself is a battlefield.
Our battle is not against people but against spiritual powers (Ephesians 6:10-12).
We must watch over & contend in prayer for people, places & this planet.
Our prayers help to maintain the walls of peoples lives & are arrayed against any advances, or attempted breaches, of the enemy.
No matter what comes against us we are surrounded by the Lord & His angelic armies.
There are far more for us than those arrayed against us (2 Kings 6:14-17).
He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).
We are constantly watched over as we take up our watch (Psalm 121).
Let us keep looking UP to the one who ceaselessly watches over His precious children.
The Lord has also thoroughly & effectively equipped & empowered us to take up the fight on our prayerful watch.
We have the indwelling Spirit to lead us in prayer (Romans 8:26-28) alongside the armour of God (Ephesians 6:12-19).
Prayer itself is of course a mighty weapon in our arsenal. Faith filled prayers from righteous saints are powerful & effective (James 5:16-18).
Let us be vigilant in the watch & valiant in the ongoing fight & battle against the enemy of our souls.
Our faith in Christ our Lord & saviour gives us the victory (1 John 5:4).
- Am I in aware of the Lord’s constant surrounding presence?
- Am i being vigilant on my watch & valiant in the battles I must engage in as a result?
- Mediate upon the battle ground that is life & prayer.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you for Your unerring ceaseless watch over me,
Through the power of Your indwelling Spirit strengthen me in my spiritual watch & battles.
Like You did with David train my arm for spiritual war,
Teach me to overcome through Christ my saviour.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
