Sing to the Lord a new song

Hallelujah – Praise the Lord.
Psalm 149 celebrates the present & future victory of the Lord our Maker & King.
There is both pleasure & power released through true HIGH praise.
This psalm highlighting the great pleasure involved in praise & the power invested in, & released through, God ‘s people.

1 Praise the Lord!

Sing to the Lord a new song.
Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

2 O Israel, rejoice in your Maker.
O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King.
3 Praise his name with dancing,
accompanied by tambourine and harp.
4 For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them.
Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

6 Let the praises of God be in their mouths,
and a sharp sword in their hands—
7 to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with shackles
and their leaders with iron chains,
9 to execute the judgment written against them.
This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones.

Praise the Lord! Psalm 149 NLT

God’s people are pictured with a crown upon their heads & a sword in their hands.
We are crowned & adorned with the beauty of the Lord’s great salvation / victory.
Our salvation & victory is in the deliverance (past, present & future) that the Lord brings.
Ultimate victory comes through Christ our mighty champion.
May we ever sing of the wonder & worth of that eternal victory.

God’s praises are to be in our mouths at the same time as the double-edged sword in our hands.
As we exult & lift up the Lord in praise & worship it is a reminder to the evil spiritual forces of what awaits them at the future & final judgement.
As we sing the Scriptures & declare the anointed melodies of the Spirit they cut through all falsehood & wickedness.
It cleanses & purifies the spiritual atmosphere. Worship is warfare & it makes a difference (2 Chronicles; Joshua 6).
Even babes & infants can put to flight the enemy as they praise the Lord (Psalm 8:2).
Putting our full trust (childlike faith) in the Lord silences the enemy. Hallelujah!!
Such praise builds a stronghold based & founded upon the ultimate Strongman – Jesus (Matthew 12:28-29).
He that is in us is so much greater than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).

The pleasure released in true praise delights the King & brings great joy to His dearly beloved subjects the saints.
HIGH praise draws us into the presence of God where there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).
The power released changes spiritual atmospheres & pushes back the enemy of our souls.
It makes room for, & a way for, the King & His Kingdom.
Take pleasure, release power. Praise & worship the King of Kings.

For Reflection

  • Do I have childlike faith & full trust in the Lord?
  • What victory / victories am I celebrating right now?
  • Mediate upon the pleasure & power of TRUE praise.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Hallelujah – praise Your mighty Name.
Through the power of your indwelling Spirit,
Help us always to give You alone the highest praise.
You alone are worthy o Mighty Saviour & King of Kings,
In the mighty name of Jesus.
