God – Our constant Refuge & Strength

In the Old & New Testament we have repeatedly seen that God will never leave or forsake His faithful people.
He is constantly present as a mighty refuge & a constant source of strength.
The Scriptures consistently declare this great truth.
We see it in Paul’s ministry & we see it throughout John`s prophetic vision in Revelation.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.
We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed — always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 NKJV

Paul knew many hardships & difficulties throughout his ministry.
Shipwrecks, imprisonments, floggings, many beatings & even left for dead after being stoned (2 Corinthians 11:22-29).
Amazingly he can testify that he was not forsaken!!
He knew that God was ever with him & the ready source of his help & strength.
Why else would you sing praises at midnight in prison after a severe beating (Acts 16:20-34)?
Paul knew his deliverer was close at hand & that was the reason for his unflinching faith, hope & confidence.
Amidst his many sufferings Paul was upheld by the constant succoring & repeated strengthening of the Lord.
As for Paul so for us. God did not abandon or forsake Paul & He will not abandon or forsake us.
Keep drawing near to God & He will keep drawing near to you (Hebrews 10:22; James 4:8).

Throughout Revelation the people of God are constantly aided in their ongoing battle against the forces of evil.
The enemy of souls – Satan – seeks to destroy them but they overcome through the Victory of Christ (Revelation 12:11).
Many trials, much trouble, great tribulation & severe persecution but the people of God prevail & are triumphant through Christ their mighty Champion.
God is ever their mighty refuge & continuous strength.
The kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of the Lord & His Christ (Revelation 11:15). Hallelujah!!

That result of that great eternal victory is portrayed in Revelation 21 & 22.
Heaven & earth in perfect harmony – no sin, no sickness, no pain or suffering, no death & no evil. Hallelujah!!
The Lord & the Lamb the perpetual light & glory of Their people. So wonderful!!
God with us tabernacling eternally with those whose names are in the Book of Life (Revelation 21:25).
God who is faithful & true (Revelation 3:14; 19:11) in the midst of His faithful people forever more.
The faithful ‘In Christ’ not abandoned, not forsaken but delivered forever more. Hallelujah!!

For Reflection

  • Do I truly believe my deliverer is ever close at hand?
  • How am I receiving the Lord’s succor & strength right now?
  • Mediate upon the Lord in the midst of His people as their perpetual light & glory.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for Your great victory ‘In Christ’.
Thank you that you never leave or forsake Your people,
Thank you that Your help, strength & deliverance is ever close at hand.
Through the power & presence of the indwelling Spirit,
Keep us succored & strengthened in your Word, will & ways,
That we might continue to pilgrim through this world as Your faithful people.
Teach & train us to overcome in the authority & power of Christ our champion,
In the mighty name of Jesus.
Amen.
