Shelter in a Time of Storm

Jesus is the one who brings divine aid & acceleration through the storms we experience in life.
He leads us through the storms & squalls of life & delivers us safe to shore.
The key for us is to welcome Him into everything we are experiencing & let Him take control of the situation.
He alone can bring a perfect peacefulness to all we are going through.

On that [same] day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side [of the Sea of Galilee].”
So leaving the crowd, they took Him with them, just as He was, in the boat. And other boats were with Him.
And a fierce windstorm began to blow, and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already being swamped.
But Jesus was in the stern, asleep [with His head] on the [sailor’s leather] cushion.
And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are about to die?”
And He got up and [sternly] rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still (muzzled)!”
And the wind died down [as if it had grown weary] and there was [at once] a great calm [a perfect peacefulness].
Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith and confidence [in Me]?”
They were filled with great fear, and said to each other, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” Mark 4:35-41 Amplified Bible

It is worth noting that the storm Mark refers to above is likely a demonic storm.
The geography of Lake Galilee leaves it susceptible to sudden fierce storms but what follows next in Mark’s gospel is also a huge clue to the origin of this particular storm.
It is no coincidence that the next chapter opens with Jesus bringing calm & perfect peace to a man with a demonic storm raging within him.
Storms (natural or supernatural) contain & carry great power & they can produce damage, devastation & even result in death.
We see all that in the demonised man’s life & also in his encounter with Jesus.
Jesus is the one who stills the storm the demoniac is experiencing bringing healing & wholeness through deliverance.
A psychotic dangerous demoniac restored to his right mind & totally at peace. All were left in awe (Mark 5:1-20).

Jesus rebuked the storm (the wind & waves) & He rebuked the legion of demons within the man.
He took authority as Lord of ALL. There was no other option but to submit to His command.
The power of Jesus’ presence & words overcoming all opposition.
These encounters revealing Jesus’ Lordship over both the physical (natural world) & the spiritual realm (angelic & demonic forces).
Both the storm & the man were instantly tamed & transformed by His words.
Divine order & harmony restored to what was previously raging chaos & terrifying turmoil.
Jesus’ Lordship, presence, power & authority triumphing over the forces & powers at work in people, places & the planet.

Jesus comes to us in our struggles & storms. He comes to our aid to provide shelter & salvation.
He is the one who can bring healing, deliverance, restoration & wholeness to the damage & devastation that any storm is causing.
No matter what the origin of our trial, tribulation, trouble or turmoil Jesus carries the authority & power to still it.
Jesus, the Lord of all, is our deliverer, our healer & the one who makes us whole again. Hallelujah!!
Will we let the Lord of all restore divine order & sets things right again? He is ALL we need.
Will we too bow before Jesus, the Lord of all, in humble homage?

For Reflection

  • Are there areas in my life where I need to submit to the commands of Jesus?
  • Recall a time when you were left in awe of Jesus’ authority, power & words. Share it as a testimony to others.
  • Meditate upon the authority & power of Jesus’ presence & words.

A song related to this theme:

Lord Jesus,
Thank you that You are the Lord of all & MY PRECIOUS LORD
Thank you that You are my salvation – my healer, my deliverer & my source of wholeness.
Holy Spirit bring Your empowering & enabling presence to all I am experiencing right now,
Bring divine aid & acceleration to restore your order & harmony in my life.
In Your mighty Name,
