The Power of Scriptures
Scripture is given to mould & shape the disciple into the pattern of Christ.
The Spirit’s work of sanctification taking place as the Word of God aligns our lives to the will & way of God.
We must bring discipline & dedication to the reading, meditation upon & study of the Scriptures.
As Spurgeon said the Bible in the memory is far more useful than the one in the bookcase!!
As we attend to, pay attention to & apply Scripture we must become hearers & doers of the Word (James 1:22).
Humbly receiving the Word & not just being casual readers of the Bible (James 1:21).
Obedience is ever the acceptable & better sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22).
For the word of God is living and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,
and of joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
Scripture has a life & power of it’s own. It is imbued & invested with God’s authority.
It pierces & penetrates to the very core of our being.
It is the discerner & revealer of the human heart.
Scripture wants & greatly desires to saturate our very hearts.
It must touch my heart if it is to transform my life!
Our hearts can take us places with the Lord that our heads just cannot go.
Divine revelation & inspiration far out-way the capacity of human intellect (Isaiah 55:8-9).
We must come to Scripture willing to allow it to cut away all that is not founded on, & in, Christ.
We bring our hearts & lives to Scripture to allow it to shape & mould them after our Lord & Master Jesus.
Scripture when it has done it’s work leaves a Christ & cross shaped stamp in our hearts & lives.
The heart of man is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9) & in need of divine transformation.
Jesus warned us to guard our hearts as they show, & spill forth, all that we hold dear & treasure in this life (Matthew 12:35, 15:18-19).
Scripture attended to with care & attention & wisely applied to one’s life is one of the ways we are conformed to the image of the Son (Romans 8:29).
Scripture will change us & make us more & more like Christ if we will keep humbly submitting unto them.
God looks on the heart as he brings His blessings & judgements to bear (1 Samuel 16:7).
May we be those who have our hearts shaped after & aligned with Christ because they are submitted to Scripture & the Spirit.
- How readily do I submit to & adjust my attitude & actions in relation to Scripture?
- What is the state & shape of my heart right now?
- Meditate on the life, power & authority of Scripture.
A song related to this theme
We thank You for the power of Your Word,
For its life, power & authority..
May it shape & mould us in the image of Christ.
Keep us humbly submitting to It’s truth & obediently following Your decrees & commandments.
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
