The Sanctifying Spirit

Scripture works hand in hand with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.
God’s Spirit dwells within us to make us more & more like Jesus (John 14:23; Romans 8:29).
He who inspired the human authors is at work again.
This time to write the law & commandments of God on our hearts.

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord:
I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me,
from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord.
For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jeremiah 31:33-34 NKJV

The Spirit renews our minds & transforms our hearts.
He teaches us to know the Lord through increasing intimacy.
This is the sanctifying work of the Spirit.
Making us like Jesus, & a holy (set apart) people as our God is holy (1 Peter 1:15-16).

We are saved to be sanctified. Saved by Christ & sanctified through the Spirit.
Set free from the power of sin to be made into the new humanity in Christ (Colossians 3:9-10).
A holy people for a holy God. A people increasing being shaped in to the image of Christ.

The Spirit supplies & resources us with all we need to grow as disciples of Christ & press deeper into holiness.

Our job is to partner willingly with the Spirit. To stay in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26).
Sensitive to His leading & guiding & receptive to His teaching & instructions.
A divine dance with the Spirit as the lead partner as we seek to be more & more like Jesus.
Enjoy the dance!! may we dance to His delight!

For Reflection

  • How well do i know the Holy Spirit?
  • How receptive is my mind & how malleable is my heart to the ways of the Spirit?
  • Meditate on the sanctifying work of the Spirit.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for Your great salvation in & through Christ our Saviour.
Thank you too for the sanctifying work of Your Spirit,
How incredible it is that you are seeking to make us more & more like Jesus.
Holy Spirit may You find us willing & able pupils,
Teach us to dance to Your great delight.
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus,
Amen
