The Sanctifying Spirit

The indwelling Spirit is our constant helper & counselor (John 14:16).
Alongside this God has supplied all we need for godliness in this life.
The Holy Spirit through the work of sanctification helps us to be partakers of the divine nature.
In this way we are transformed from glory unto glory (2 Corinthians 3:18) & conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).
Scripture works hand in hand with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 2 Peter 1:2-9 NKJV

The Spirit gives us access to God’s divine power.
The power with potential to transform our lives through the process of sanctification.
Scripture directs & the Spirit dynamises!!
Scripture points the way & the Spirit provides the power required for lasting change.
Together they work in tandem to make us more & more like Jesus.

We are saved to be sanctified.  The process of sanctification does require our continued cooperation though.
The Spirit’s dynamism & power must be matched by our diligence & dedication.
We are to be a people who keep hungering & thirsting after the Lord.
Showing deep desire & a healthy appetite to know Jesus more & more.
That is the key to growth & fruitfulness in our journey with Jesus.

Jesus made it possible through his death & resurrection.
Scripture & the sanctifying Spirit enable it to happen.
Our diligence & dedication completes the process.
The Spirit empowers & equips where we make the effort to engage & comply.
May the Spirit find us ever willing partners.
May we gladly partake of all He has to offer & give.

For Reflection

  • What am I employing to get to know the Holy Spirit more & to stay in step with Him?
  • How hungry am I to grow in my knowledge of God? How strong is my appetite for more of Jesus?
  • Meditate on all that God has provided for us as partakers of the divine nature.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for Your desire to make us evermore like You.
Thank you that Jesus died & rose again to make this a reality.
Thank you for the sanctifying work of Your Holy Spirit,
How He provides the divine power to keep transforming us into the image of Christ.
Holy Spirit may You find us willing & able partners,
Take us ever deeper into the great divine dance.
May we grow in the graces You have gifted us with & the godly fruitfulness You desire,
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
