The Sanctifying Spirit

Sanctification follows salvation & is to make us like the Saviour.
The indwelling Spirit is the means of our sanctification (2 Corinthians 3:18; Romans 8:29).
We must engage but He empowers & together with Scripture transforms our lives.
He leads us in the divine dance that makes us more & more like Jesus.
Beautiful to behold!! Exhilarating to experience & live.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he who lacks these things is short-sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 2 Peter 1:2-9 NKJV

We are gifted the faith unto salvation ‘In Christ’ & graced with everything we need for life & godliness.
The Spirit makes available the divine power for us to be partakers of the divine nature.
Living on (believing & trusting), whilst wisely & rightly applying, the great promises of God in Scripture accompany this.
We have received everything we could ever need (in embryonic seed form if you like) but we need to grow & increase it through the Spirit’s power & Scriptures instruction.
Together they feed & nurture our souls & spirits, enabling them to grow in Christlikeness.

We are saved to be sanctified. The process of sanctification enables us to grow in the Christlike graces that God has deposited deep within us.
Faith must grow & develop along with virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness & ultimately love.
It is a challenging list of character traits to develop & if we are honest it is beyond the scope & strength of our human capabilities.
That is why we have been given the guiding light that is Scripture & the power source who is the Holy Spirit.
Where we lack they abundantly supply. So good.

Sanctification – the process of growing in the divine graces – leads to fruitfulness in our lives.
The fruitfulness of growing in the knowledge of God. The wonder of finding deepening intimacy with Father, Son & Spirit.
Sanctification is the invitation to join the divine dance that takes us deeper & deeper into the love & intimacy of the Trinity.
May you respond readily to the invitation & dance with abandonment & freedom to the satiation of your soul & spirit.
Lead on Holy Spirit as we dance to the tune of the Son set to the rhythm of Scripture.
Breath-taking & truly a delight to behold. Hallelujah!

For Reflection

  • Where & how am I growing in the divine graces of Christlike character?
  • How am I enjoying the dance of love with the Trinity?
  • Meditate on the divine dance of Trinitarian love.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for Your great invitation to the Trinitarian dance of love.
Thank you Jesus that Your saving sacrifice made this possible.
Holy Spirit may You ever find us willing & ready partners.
Teach us truly to dance to the beat of your heart,
That we may flourish, flower & fruit in Christlikeness,
To the glory of God the Father.
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus,
