The Breath-taking Beauty of Unity

The Godhead live forever united in a harmonious relationship of reciprocal love.
We are called to replicate that love & unity in our relationships here on earth.
All made possible through the great love, mercy & grace of God revealed in Christ our saviour.
The Apostle Paul beseeches (strongly pleads with) his readers to keep the unity of the Spirit.

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-3

Unity is given in Christ & the Spirit & therefore must be received rather than made.
It is something we step into by faith rather than build up through human toil or effort.
A spiritual reality rather than something we build or fashion through human relationships.
Provided by God for His people to be blessed & enriched in & by.
We are called to walk & live in unity. Unity with God & unity with one another.

We are called to live & walk in unity. Unity with God & unity with one another.
This is facilitated by humility, gentleness, patience & bearing with one another in love.
We need the Spirit’s help & strength to constantly keep walking that path of peace & harmony.
The fruit of the Spirit manifested in us to keep us in the unity of the Spirit.

The Spirit empowers but we must endeavour!! Again it is about us living & working in partnership with the Holy Spirit.
We must long for & passionately desire to live in unity with our brothers & sisters ‘in Christ’.
Like Christ we must pray for unity & position ourselves to participate in it (John 17).
Staying in step with the Spirit (following His lead in the dance) helps us to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the body of Christ.
May we live true to our calling!

For Reflection

  • How passionate am I to be united – at ONE – with the people of God?
  • How often do I pray for unity in & across Christ’s body – the Church?
  • Meditate on the unity of the Spirit gifted to the body of Christ.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the precious & beautiful gift of Unity that You have provided for Your bride & body.
May we experience the richness & power of it’s blessing.
Through the power of Your Spirit teach & enable us to keep the unity of the Spirit,
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Amen
