The Just Shall Live by Faith

The ‘just’ can live by faith ‘In Christ’ alone. That is the heart of the gospel message.
The righteous Saviour Christ died & sacrificed His life for the unrighteous sinner (each one of us).
The Apostle Paul boldly & unashamedly preached this life changing message in place after place on his missionary journeys.
It was his great passion & his life’s chief purpose.

I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation [from His wrath and punishment] to everyone who believes [in Christ as Savior],
to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed,
both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed in a way that awakens more faith].
As it is written and forever remains written, “The just and upright shall live by faith.”

Romans 1:16-17 Amplified

Whilst we were still sinners & enemies of God Christ died for us (Romans 5:8-10).
He took our punishment upon Himself & paid the penalty for sin (Isaiah 53).
That is the great promise & power of the gospel. Christ crucified & raised to life for our salvation.
The apostle Paul was zealous to let everyone know this wonderful good news.
He earnestly implored his many audiences to be reconciled to God because of it (2 Corinthians 5:20).

Paul had great confidence in boldly making known the gospel.

He knew it was a gift that flowed from God’s great grace & love – faith unto salvation & faith for salvation.
That free gift is the source of saving faith & the springboard to a life of persisting enduring faith.
We are saved, being saved & to be saved (past Romans 8:24, present 1 Corinthians 1:18; Romans 13:11 & future Romans 5:9; 1 Corinthians 3:15).
Made righteous ‘in Christ’ to live a just & righteous life.
Saving faith being the seed that bursts in to life & grows to sustain the life of faith with Christ.

Through the gospel we are restored to right relationship with God.
Out of that right relationship with our heavenly Father we are to live ‘right’ – in right relationships with others.
The ‘just’ – those that remain in close relationship & fellowship with Christ – shall live by faith.
It will be the power source of their continuing worship, witness & warfare.
May we boldly proclaim & preach Christ as Saviour & Lord in our day.
May we with passion & purpose make Christ known.
May we like Paul see the power of God unto salvation at work in others.

For Reflection

  • What am I passionate & purposeful about?
  • Am I persisting in the faith & walking closely with God?
  • Meditate on the gospel, the power of God unto salvation.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the great gift of saving faith,
That flows from your mighty love & grace,
Holy Spirit help us to live in ‘just & right relationships’ with God & others,
Give us strength, courage & boldness to proclaim the gospel & make Jesus known.
May the power & promise of God flow to us & through us to see people reconciled to God.
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
