Peace in a Troubled World
Jesus the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) promises us peace in the midst of the troubles of this world.
He warns His disciples that there will be trouble, tribulation & hardship as we travel through this world.
Being a Christian does not exclude us from those challenges in life.
The great promise is that Jesus is ever with us, through His indwelling Spirit, to provide us with His peace & shalom.
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
There is no shortage of trouble & tribulation in this fallen world.
In recent years, globally, we seem to be lurching from crisis to crisis (e.g. wars & conflicts, Covid, cost of living).
The birth pangs of God’s New Creation are increasing in frequency & intensity (Romans 8:22).
In the midst of all this Jesus still promises us His peace.
The peace that passes all understanding & the peace that guards hearts & minds (Philippians 4:7).
How does Jesus do this?
There are a number of reasons how Jesus, who is fully God & fully man, can do this.
He is both the God of peace & Prince of Peace. He Himself is our peace (Ephesians 2:14).
Peace is an essential part of who He is & He gives it to those He dwells in & with (John 14:23).
The Holy Spirit is a carrier of peace & Jesus sends his Spirit to live within us & sets His Spirit upon us to work through us.
The Spirit’s fruit, as we stay in step with Him, releases God’s peace into our lives (Galatians 5:22-23).
Jesus has overcome the world by making peace upon the cross (Colossians 1:20).
We are blessed with the peace that flows from right relationship with the God of peace.
Jesus overcame the world through His death & resurrection.
He continues to overcome in & through His people who He has made to be more than conquerors (Romans 8:37).
We are blessed with Jesus’ peace amidst the troubles & tribulations of this world so that we can carry His peace to others.
Blessed to be a Blessing.
God’s grace working in us & through us as bearers & bringers of Jesus’ love, joy, peace, hope, light, & life.
The more peace there is in us the more peace we can bring to this troubled world.
Keep looking unto the Lord to fill you with His peace.
Keep asking the Lord to fill & overflow you with His peace & release it to this fallen & broken world.
May we truly be His people of peace who bring & make peace in this world.
That is a kingdom distinctive of the children of God (Matthew 5:9). May it be true of you & true of me.
His PEACE He gives to you & to me. Hallelujah!!!
- Who or what are the things or issues that are troubling me at this time?
- Am I experiencing peace of mind & heart right now?
- Meditate on the peace that Jesus gives.
A song related to this theme:
Heavenly Father & God of peace,
Thank you for the peace you give,
The peace that flows freely from Your presence & person
Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, thank you that You are my peace,
Still my heart & mind & fill me with Your shalom.
Holy Spirit let Your peace freely flower in my life,
Keep me in step with, & walking closely, with You.
That I may truly be Your child & a peacemaker in this world
This I ask in, & through, the mighty Name of Jesus.
