Peace in a Troubled World

Jesus promises His disciples (followers) peace in this troubled world.
The peace He promises is of a different dimension & order to that which the world can give.
It is the peace that flows from His presence, the peace of the kingdom (Romans 14:) & heaven’s peace & Shalom.
Heaven breaking into this world & people’s lives through the presence of Christ & the power of His Spirit.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I. John 14: 26-28

Jesus releases the gift of peace to His people. Perfect peace from the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
This is in stark contrast to the frail, transient & fragile peace that the world offers us.
Earthly peace is based on circumstances & human emotions remaining constant & reliable. They rarely do though!!
The Peace of Christ is of a more robust & reliable substance – from God & of God.
It is the peace, calm & confidence that flows from knowing we are dearly beloved children of God.
The tranquility of soul that knows the assurance of salvation.
Nothing, no person or circumstance, can change those priceless, precious truths which are foundational for us as believers.
Jesus’ peace for you & for me.

The peace Jesus gives to us is not from this world but it is for this world.
It gives strength to overcome the fears, anguish & anxieties our hearts & minds can be subject to.
Jesus peace is a precious gift, received through the Holy Spirit, that gives us access to heaven’s resources.
It gives us strength & courage to walk with Jesus through the darkness of this world.
The context of Jesus promising this peace in John’s Gospel is in the shadow of Christ’s imminent death!!
He gives & gifts His peace & it is a peace that remains. A peace that never leaves us. Hallelujah!!
It is an enduring & everlasting peace that envelops us. So, so good.
Jesus gifts & gives that peace through His great love. We receive it by faith & trust in Him.

Jesus peace enables us to overcame in this world (Romans 8:37).
To keep finding His light, live & love in the midst of the world’s darkness.
We are called to stay close to & hold fast to Christ.
As we do so His peace flows to us & it also flows through us.
It brings heaven’s light & vibrant colour to the shadows & darkness of this world & at times our lives.
Blessing us & making us a blessing to this world.

Keep asking the Lord to fill you with His peace.
Keep asking the Holy Spirit to release God’s peace through you to this hurting world.
His PEACE He gives to you & it REMAINS. BE STILL.
It pierces the darkness in our lives & it pierces the darkness of this world. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • What are the fleeting shadows that trouble you right now?
  • How am I experiencing Jesus peace right now? Where am I releasing it?
  • Meditate on the gift of Jesus’ peace & how it remains.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father & majestic God of peace,
Thank you for the precious & priceless gift of peace you give,
The peace that is my Saviour Jesus, my Prince of Peace.
Lord Jesus still my soul & fill my spirit with Your perfect shalom.
Holy Spirit let Your peace freely flow in, & through, my life,
This I ask in, & through, the mighty Name of Jesus.
