Our Saviour and Lord

In Psalm 20 David calls upon the Lord his God & saviour.
He cries out for salvation (v 5, 6 & 9) through a song of great trust.
David anticipates & has such strong assurance that God will save him.
He is looking for supernatural help & strength from God his saviour & Lord.
It is a confident prayer for God to bring breakthrough & victory in a time of great need.
What David found in God we find fulfilled in all its glorious fulness in our Lord Jesus Christ.

May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
And fulfil all your purpose.
We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the Lord fulfil all your petitions.
Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand. Psalm 20:4-6

David is ever aware of the saving presence & power of the Lord.
He acknowledges both personal & national needs before the Lord.
He cries out in prayer for God’s help. Help for the individual & help for the nation.
Looking unto the Lord to bring salvation (deliverance, help & rescue).
It is a prayer full of faith & made with assurance through confident courageous conviction.
David knows that he will be heard & is expectant of a favourable answer.
David is so confident & expectant that he rejoices in the Lord’s victory even before he has received it!!!
His trust is in the NAME of the Lord. The One who brings victory & salvation through His strong right hand.
Salvation for David & the children of Israel through the victory of God.

David looks unto the Lord for salvation.
That salvation contains a number of different things:

  • Protection (v1)
  • Help (v2a)
  • Strength & support (v2b)
  • Acceptance (v3)
  • Success (prosperity) (v4)
  • Victory (v5)

We will consider more about each of these in turn over the coming days.

Our victory is in, & through, the Anointed One, Jesus Christ.
Saved by the Saviour & anointed by the Anointed One. We are clothed in Him (Galatians 3:26-27).
Like David let us have the courage & confidence to cry out to the Lord for supernatural help, strength & salvation.
Let us have the assurance & strong conviction that the Lord will not only hear us but help& deliver us too.
Showing us His great salvation. Hallelujah!!

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I receiving the Lord’s help & strength right now?
  • In my current circumstances how bold & confident am I to keep calling out, & crying out, unto the Lord?
  • Meditate upon the Lord our God & Saviour.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are my God & Saviour,
That you are my ever present help & strength through Your saving presence & power.
Jesus thank you that You are the victory of God,
And Your death & resurrection has guaranteed that the plans & purposes of God will be fulfilled.
Holy Spirit keep me like David ever aware of the Lord’s saving presence & power,
Looking unto Him, above all else, to bring victory & salvation.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
