Our Saviour and Lord

King David & the nation of Israel are crying out for God’s saving power in Psalm 20.
That salvation is shown to them through God who is their (& our) defender, deliverer, protector, help, support & strength.
The one in whom they (& we) are fully accepted & find success. The one who is their (& our) source of victory.
Today we will look at how the Lord is our VICTORY.

May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
And fulfil all your purpose.
We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions. Psalm 20:4-5

King David & Israel were looking unto & praying to the Lord for success in battle.
The raising of the banners is a sign of victory (Exodus 17:15). The victory of God on behalf of His people.
Israel anticipated it in prayer & the Lord delivered it be giving victory to the king.
That king was David & the nation was Israel. The ultimate & eternal victory is in King Jesus.
That victory is for those who have believed in Jesus as Lord & Saviour & are ’In Christ’.
His wondrous banner over us is LOVE (Song of Solomon 2:4). Jehovah Nissi – The Lord is my banner.
The eternal victory of God in Christ came through the love displayed at Calvary (John 3:16).

King David & the Israelites were confident that God would hear & answer their prayers.
God is the one who hears & answers all our prayers & petitions.
Those answers are yes, no, maybe or wait. We pray in the name of Jesus.
Jesus himself encouraged us to ask for all things in & through His great name (John 14:14).
Prayers aligned with the will, word & ways of God are to be offered in Jesus name.
Our heavenly Father’s ear is ever inclined towards us (Psalm 17:6 & 40:1).
As we incline our hearts to Him he inclines His ears to our prayers!! SELAH.
He hears & answers the cries of His children. Hallelujah!!!

Israel looked not to the strength & power of horses & chariots (Psalm 20:7).
They looked to & trusted in the Lord their God for victory. In Him they rise & stand upright (Psalm 20:8).
We trust in Christ the One who is resurrection & life (John 11:25). The One who enables us to RISE – Hallelujah!!
Our victory is in & through the victory of God fulfilled in Jesus Christ’s death & resurrection.
In Him, & through Him, we are overcomers & more than conquerors (Romans 8:37-39).
Victors through Jesus our victory!! O what a mighty Saviour & Lord.
No one can stand against our mighty King – the victory belongs to Jesus. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I raising the Lord’s victory banners?
  • Do my prayers & petitions flow from a heart aligned to God’s word, will & ways?
  • Meditate upon Jesus who is our victory.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that my victory is in Your great victory in Christ,
That my salvation is secured ‘In Christ’.
Jesus thank you that You are my Saviour & mighty King,
That in You I am an overcomer & more than a conqueror through Your great love.
Holy Spirit keep me fully trusting in the Lord in the battle that is life,
Lifting my prayers & petitions, & committing my plans fully unto You, in any & every situation or circumstance,
Keep me lifting Your victory banners & mighty love high.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
