Strength for the Battle

We are strengthened by the Lord in our battle against the world, the flesh & the devil (Ephesians 2:1-3).
Jesus is the victory of God & the battle belongs to the Lord. ‘In Christ’ we are on the winning side. Hallelujah!!!
We have also seen some of the differing ways we draw strength in the midst of that battle.
Our Identity ‘In Christ’, intimacy with Jesus, the indwelling presence & power of the Holy Spirit & intercession & prayer are huge battle aids.
We are wonderfully & powerfully equipped to fight the good fight (1 Timothy 6:12).
Praise & worship are also a powerful tactic & strategy for us to deploy. That is our focus for today.

So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa;
and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem:
Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”
And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord,
and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:
“Praise the Lord,
For His mercy endures forever.”
Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon,
Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 2 Chronicles 20:20-22

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. Acts 16:25-26

Praise & worship is powerful. The 2 passages above give us a glimpse into that potential & power.
Israel triumphed in a battle as they sent forth the worshippers at the head of the army.
Paul & Silas in the depths of a horrendous prison choose to sing praises. At midnight!!!
Praise & worship in both settings totally transformed the scenario’s.
Deliverance from a mighty army for Israel & rescue & release from prison for Paul & Silas.
Amazing!! The enemy routed & the people of God rescued & released into freedom. So, so good.
Sing & see the works & wonders of the Lord!!

Praise & worship carry great spiritual power & potential.
They bless the Lord, lift the heart & spirit of the worshipper & change the spiritual atmosphere.
They are a form of spiritual warfare as we proclaim through song the goodness, grace & mighty love of the Lord.
It provides a source of strength to the people of God & the enemy cannot stand it!!
Satan hates it when God gets His rightful glory & honour. The glory due His name (Psalm 29:2, 96:8).
Praise & worship puts the enemy to flight as it rightly exalts & glorifies the Lord. Thank you, Jesus.

We have been given the great privilege of putting voice to the praise & worship of the Lord.
Creation cries out (Psalm 19) in response to God’s goodness & glory but we give voice.
Some of us can even sing well but alas not me. I remain content to make a joyful noise (Psalm 100:1-2)!!!
It is a good discipline to be praising the Lord all the day long (Psalm 113:3).
A helpful means of tapping into the strength we receive from the Lord.
We can praise in all circumstances & the good news is that praise carries power to bring change.
It certainly changes my perspective & has power to transform the circumstances too.

Praise & worship is our delight as we exalt & honour the Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
The wonderful thing is that as we do it it strengthens us & scares off our enemies.
It is therefore a double blessing & source of strength. The Lord is so, so good to us.
Another powerful resource & tactical weapon in the battle. Thank you, JESUS.
Keep raising those Hallelujah’s!!

For Reflection

  • What am I raising a hallelujah about right now?
  • In what ways am I engaging in or developing a ministry of intercession?
  • Meditate upon the potential & power of praise & worship.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You alone are worthy of all praise,
Thank you too that praise is a source of strength & salvation (rescue).
Jesus thank you that have the Name above all names,
I praise & magnify Your Holy Name.
Holy Spirit help to be free in my praise & worship of the Lord,
Lifting my voice in exaltation in all circumstances,
And praising the whole day long.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
