Heart of the Matter

Mary’s heart prayerfully pondered over the Lord’s plan & purpose for her & her Child.
That pondering (reasoning leading to understanding) took place in the heart rather than the mind.
We have been given our minds for good purposes but spiritually we process things firstly in the heart.
In the things of God our hearts are to inform & instruct our heads!!
That is because our spiritual hearts are the very core of our being & the source from which life springs.
Mary’s heart pondered & it also treasured (stored up & valued) what the Lord was doing..
Therefore, today our focus will be the treasure we store in our hearts.

But Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them and pondering them in her heart.
Luke 2:19 Amplified Bible

He went down to Nazareth with them, and was continually submissive and obedient to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. Luke 2:51 Amplified Bible

As well as pondering over things in her heart Mary also treasured things there.
She kept them in her heart & stored them up. Mary observed them closely & then she preserved them.
She repeatedly paid careful & prayerful attention to them & actively held them as something very valuable.
Mary then got to brooding over them & praying to make sense of them.
Again, we see an ongoing activity & exercise of the spiritual heart.
Mary truly treasured what the Lord was doing in her life.
Treasure speaks of things that are precious to us.
The words God speaks to us, His promises & what He is doing in, & through, our lives is deeply precious.

Spiritually our hearts are treasure chests & storage places (storehouses cf. Matthew 13:52).
Places to keep valuable things in & store them up. Places to gather treasure & precious gems from the Lord!!
As we keep storing things up we produce increase & end up with an abundance. Hoards of treasure.
That is why abundance flows from the heart. Be careful & discerning about what you are storing up.
Jesus taught us about the abundance of the heart (Matthew 12:34; Luke 6:45).
The mouth speaks what the heart is full of!! BE WARNED. SELAH

A heart that is full of God’s truth, promises, wisdom, word & ways is a beautiful thing.
The overflow of that heart will bring forth blessing after blessing.
Keep treasuring up all the good things the Lord is doing for you, & through you, in your heart.
In due season they will spring forth in abundance to release blessing. Hallelujah!!
How wonderful to have a heart full of an abundance of Christ & all His words, will & ways. SELAH
Make Jesus the treasure of your heart.

For Reflection

  • Am I truly treasuring what God is doing in, & through, my life?
  • What treasures from the Lord is my heart storing up right now?
  • What am I currently holding & weighing as something of great value from the Lord?
  • Meditate upon the beauty of a heart that truly treasures the things of the Lord.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You continually speak & release the treasure of truth & wisdom unto me,
That Your word, will & ways are so precious & valuable.
Jesus keep my mindful, discerning of & guarding my heart,
That it may fully & truly be caught up with You.
Holy Spirit help me to always make Jesus the treasure of my heart,
To keep my heart humble, & my senses open & receptive, before Him.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
