Sowing and Reaping
Sowing & reaping is a deeply inbuilt principle of life. Everything has consequences & we inevitably reap what we sow.
God’s kingdom operates at a different dimension than what we see & experience in this beautiful yet broken world.
As God’s kingdom increasingly breaks into our lives, & this world, we see sowing & reaping take place but in altered & accelerated ways.
Increased yields, reaping the blessings that others have sown & a constant harvest are the realities of the kingdom.
These supernatural dynamics will be our focus for today.
But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Matthew 13:8-9
Where the seed of God’s word (which is always good) finds good fertile soil, it produces a rich harvest.
That yield is 30, 60 or 100 fold. That would be good business & profitable for any farmer!!
Of course, Jesus here is referring to a spiritual harvest in the life of the hearer.
The key is the state of the soil. The hearer’s heart & life. SELAH
We need a hearing, responsive & tender heart to produce a spiritual harvest in our lives.
A submissive heart always allows God’s word to root, grow & fruit in our lives. Hallelujah!!
When we walk obediently in the Lord’s favour & blessing, like Isaac, we will sow & reap at incredible levels (Genesis 26:12).
Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’?
Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life,
that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.
For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’
I sent you to reap that for which you have not laboured; others have laboured,
and you have entered into their labours.” John 4:35-38
Earthly harvests take time to ripen & come to fruition. It takes skill & experience to time the harvest right.
In contrast, a spiritual harvest is always present for those who are looking for it. SELAH
We are those who must lift our eyes to see that harvest & seize the opportunities of the day.
Wonderfully in the Kingdom of God we get to enjoy the benefits & blessings of other people’s labour.
We are fellow & co-workers in the Father’s kingdom business (1 Corinthians 3:9; Colossians 4:11).
We work together, from generation to generation & across the present generations, for a kingdom harvest.
As we do we get to share the rewards of the kingdom harvest. So good!!
Jesus was always looking for a spiritual harvest – His expectation is for fruitfulness (Mark 11:12-14 & 20-24) in every season!!
We are to faithfully labour teaching, providing instruction & proclaiming the word of God in each & every season (2 Timothy 4:2).
There is always a spiritual harvest for those that look but different seeds also grow at different speeds & rates.
That is why we need to remain constantly faithful whatever the season. SELAH.
“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“When the plowman shall overtake the reaper,
And the treader of grapes him who sows seed;
The mountains shall drip with sweet wine,
And all the hills shall flow with it. Amos 9:13
The great promise to Israel was for a day & time (era) of restoration & renewal.
That is now & it will come in all it’s fulness with the full breaking in of the Kingdom of God upon this earth.
We are working for & heading towards a day of abundant unceasing, accelerated (spiritual) harvest upon this earth.
The sowers overtaking the reapers!!! The earth producing abundant unceasing goodness (healing of the land). O so very good.
All of this is made possible through the death & resurrection of the Saviour, Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!!
Let us keep faithfully sowing & reaping as fellow workers in the Kingdom of God. Hasten that great day. O Lord.
- In what ways am I bearing fruit for the Lord? How am I staying faithful as a fellow worker with God?
- Where am I seeing a harvest right now? What am I doing to bring in that harvest?
- Meditate upon the dynamics of Kingdom sowing & reaping.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that You are the Lord of the Harvest,
That You supply supernatural strength, acceleration & multiplication in every season.
Jesus thank you that through Your death & resurrection,
A day of complete unending restoration & renewal is coming for Your people & this planet.
Holy Spirit keep my heart tender & responsive to the will, word & ways of the Lord,
That I might produce great fruitfulness & a mighty harvest in, & through, my life.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
