God is a faithful God & He calls us to faithfulness too (Ephesians 1:1; Colossians 1:2).
Christians are therefore called into a life of faithfulness. Faithfulness to God, to one another as believers & to our fellow humanity.
That duty of Christian faithfulness, properly understood, is our loving response to the faithfulness of God.
Faithfulness is never, ever, an issue for the Lord who is always true to His word & keeps every promise He makes.
It is another matter entirely for us who must battle to stay faithful each & every day.
We will explore some keys to staying faithful & true to The lord in this week’s TFD.

“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; Deuteronomy 7:9

In His faithfulness & unending mercy the Lord made a Covenant with Israel.
Israel struggled to stay faithful to the Covenant because of indwelling sin.
Jesus died & rose again to set us free from sin & establish an even better New Covenant for the people of God.
That New Covenant, just like its predecessor, is for those who love the Lord & will keep His commandments.
It is based upon obedience. Obedience always delights the Lord’s heart & results in His blessing (Deuteronomy 7:12-16).

Faithfulness to the Lord flows out of loving the Lord & obediently embracing & following His will, word & ways.
We can confidently commit to keeping the Lord’s commandments because we know He is faithful.
He is ever with us (Hebrews 13:5) & ever for us (Romans 8:31). That is faithfulness in action.
He does not let us down but keeps His promises (2 Corinthians 1:20). Those promises are fulfilled in Christ, our Saviour.
Knowing & experiencing these great truths should be a constant source of both comfort & courage.
We can because He always does. Hallelujah!!

The glory of God’s faithfulness to us is that no sin, stumble, or mistake on our part has ever made Him unfaithful.
He loves, us, He loves us, He loves us. Through that love He is faithful to forgive & cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
That great faithfulness was revealed in the death & resurrection of Christ. The faithful God forgives us ‘In Christ’.
This means there is aways a fresh start available for those who look to the Lord’s faithfulness for forgiveness.
His mercies & compassions are new every morning because of His great faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23).
O what a fabulously faithful God we serve. Hallelujah!! Amen.

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I wrestling with the issues around faithfulness to God & others?
  • Where is my obedience being strengthened or stretched?
  • Meditate upon the faithfulness of God.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are the faithful God,
That Your mercies & compassions are new every morning.
Jesus thank you that through Your death & resurrection,
Forgiveness & redeeming love are ever available to me.
Holy Spirit keep me obedient & fully committed to the Lord’s will, words & ways,
That I might grow in faithfulness to God & others.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
