Our forever faithful Heavenly Father (2 Timothy 2:13) calls us to faithfulness too (Ephesians 1:1; Colossians 1:2).
Faithfulness is not only about doing what you say you’ll do but also about being who you say you are.
God is an expert in faithfulness & we are learning how to grow in faithfulness as we walk in step with the Spirit.
His faithfulness is our shield & a protection around us (Psalm 91:4). So Good.
The fruit of the Holy Spirit is a rich source of faithfulness for us. This will be focus for today.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

The fruit of the Spirit is produced as we live & walk in the Holy Spirit.
That fruit is the natural by-product of submitting & surrendering to the leading & guiding of the Spirit.
It is both a work of grace & a result of disciplined godly (holy) living on our part. Grace & grit!!!!
Faithfulness is a part of that fruit. The Holy Spirit leads us to faithfulness.
Faithfulness to God & faithfulness to others.

The fruit of the Spirit can be understood as love expressing itself through action.
Faithfulness is love’s commitment – love keeping it’s word.
Being people who remain faithful in all things. Being, doing & saying what we said we would be & do, consistently & reliably.
That is why we need the Holy Spirit’s help, strength & guidance to keep growing in faithfulness.
As we walk in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:16 & 25), sensitively responding to Him, we will do just that.

Faithfulness flows freely (by grace) from our relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Spending time & obediently following the Faithful One leads to faithfulness in us.
As we commit to act faithfully we take up our godly responsibility (the grit to partner with God’s grace).
The love of God will then flow more freely as we increasingly become people of our word.
Led by the Spirit we are continually learning to WALK THE TALK more & more reliably.
Let us therefore make every effort to keep walking in step with the Spirit so that we continue growing in faithfulness.

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I making every effort to partner with & walk in step with the Spirit?
  • What does faithfulness look like in my life right now?
  • Meditate upon faithfulness as part of the fruit of the Spirit.

A song related to this theme

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are the faithful God, perfect in faithfulness,
Whose mercies & compassions are new every morning.
Jesus thank you that remained faithful unto death,
To secure my salvation through Your great sacrifice.
Holy Spirit keep me obedient & fully committed to partner with You,
Responding readily to Your leading & guiding so that I may grow in faithfulness to God & others.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
