Heavenly Hymns

In Revelation chapters 4 & 5 the Apostle John gets to experience the worship in heaven’s throne room.
It is breathtakingly beautiful as the Lord is adored in endless worship by the host of heaven & all creation.
There are 5 heavenly hymns contained in these 2 chapters alone.
We have looked at the first one (Revelation 4:8) & we will look at the other 4 in turn (Revelation 4:11; 5:9-10,11 & 13).
Other expressions of praise are found in Revelation 7:12; 11:17-18; 14:3-4; 19:2-7.
Endless worship & ceaseless praise of the Lord God & the Lamb is at the core of Heaven’s culture. Hallelujah!!

“You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honour and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:11

The first 2 of these hymns focus upon the Lord God (Revelation 4:8 & 11).
The next 2 put the Lamb of God at the centre of praise & adoration (Revelation 5:9-10 & 11).
The fifth heavenly hymn in this great section on Heaven’s worship focuses upon both the Lord & the Lamb (Revelation 5:13).
The intimate adoring cries of worship praising & exalting them as both Creator & Redeemer

The Lord & the Lamb are worshipped by ever larger & increasing diverse choirs!!!
It starts with the 4 living creatures in & around the throne (Revelation 4:8).
It then extends via the 24 elders (Revelation 4:11) to the angels (Revelation 5:11) & finally includes all of creation (Revelation 5:13).
The Lord & the Lamb are front & centre & the focus of heaven’s & all creation’s worship.
No surprises there as they will be the temple (presence & place of worship) in the heavenly city of the New Creation (Revelation 21:22).
Ever & always at the heart of the worship for they alone are worthy.

We, as humans, are those upon this earth who have been given a great & unique gift & privilege.
Each one of us has the ability to give voice to the worship & praise of the Lord & the Lamb.
If we don’t cry out in worship the rocks & stones will (Luke 19:40). SELAH
What can we do but join in with the adoring unceasing cries of heaven & the rest of creation.
Worthy O worthy are You Lord. Let those melodies & harmonies flow. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I keeping the Lord front & centre in my life?
  • How free am I & how easily do I flow in praise & worship?
  • Does my private worship differ from my public worship?
  • Meditate upon the circles of ever increasing & widening worship in heaven.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are worthy of honour, glory & power,
For You are my Creator & Redeemer.
Jesus Lamb of God thank you that You paid the price for my salvation,
That You were slain to bring victory for God’s eternal plans & purposes.
Holy Spirit keep me praising fully & serving faithfully,
May my life be one that ever glorifies the Lord.
In Jesus mighty Name.
