The Mystery and Marvel of Christian Maturity
The Apostle Paul earnestly prays & desires that the Ephesian believers would be filled with ALL the fullness of God.
He not only believes it is possible but exhorts them not to doubt it (Ephesians 3:20-21). God is the God of more!!
He is the miracle working God of abundance who can do so much more than we could ever hope or imagine.
The design & desire of the Lord for believers is both a great mystery & a wondrous marvel.
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19
Paul describes the extraordinary process of a marvellous mystery as God works in us through Christ & the Spirit.
Once again, we see the Godhead – the Trinity – working together within the believer’s, & also the believing communities, life.
It is a process of growth & development which is dependant upon continuing faith in Christ. SELAH
That growth & development taking us ever deeper into the inexhaustible & immeasurable love of Christ.
An intimate journey of experiencing & encountering more & more of the love of God. So good.
Paul describes the Spirit working within us to:
- Unveil the unlimited riches of God’s glory & grace
- Grant favour & supernatural strengthening
- Reveal & establish the life of Christ as it is released from deep within us
- Enable us to experience & comprehend the magnitude & dynamism of Christ’s amazing love in all its dimensions.
- Be filled with the extravagant love of God as it is poured into us until we are overflowing with ALL the fulness of God.
It is an astonishing & breath-taking vision, yet Paul was praying for it to be an earthly reality. SELAH
We will think more about this marvellous work of God over the coming days.
This was God’s intention (design) & Paul’s passionate prayer for his fellow believers.
What God desires for us is just amazing & when we really think about it truly takes our breath away.
Father, Son & Spirit are ever at work in us to establish Christ in us & fill us with their love & all the fulness of God.
That work is in us as individuals & also as the body of Christ (corporately). We need the Lord & we need one another.
O what a wonderful work the Lord has begun & will faithfully complete in us (Philippians 1:6). Hallelujah!!!
- In what ways am I becoming more & more like Jesus?
- How often do I think about what, & who, God really wants me to be?
- Meditate upon the sheer magnitude & beauty of God’s design & desire for you.
A song related to this theme:
God of all faithfulness, & miracle working God of abundance,
Thank you that You faithful to complete the good work You have stared in me.
Jesus thank you for the never ending strength You provide,
Keep releasing Your amazing & unfailing love unto me.
Holy Spirit keep establishing Christ in me & filling me with the fullness of God,
Help me to fully lay hold of more & more of the Lord’s endless love & grace.
In Jesus mighty Name.
