Biblical Roads & Paths

As Christians we are pilgrims on this earth. We embark on a constant journey as we travel with the Lord through our lives. The Lord through His goodness, grace & great love constantly instructs, directs & teaches us the directions we are to travel (Psalm 25:4; 32:8). His desire is that we stay upon & safely traverse the straight paths of His righteousness & life (Psalm 16:11; Proverbs 4:11; Acts 2:28). This week we will explore some of the roads & paths that the Bible highlights.

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7:13-14

Jesus encourages us to enter through the narrow gate (Himself) & to tread the narrow path that leads to life. This contrasts with the wide, broad & easy path that leads to death & destruction. The roads & paths of life do not all lead to the same destination!!! Some lead to safety & security whilst others lead to disaster & are destructive. This is not a popular mode of thinking in this present age when we are encouraged to embrace all in the name of equality & diversity.

Jesus calls each & every human being to walk the narrow way with Him. We enter through Him & we walk with Him. This is the way to life & fellowship with God. It is not the easiest way or the popular way, but it is the only sure & certain way to an eternity in fellowship with the Lord.

Jesus calls but we must respond. We must make the choice to fully trust, & faithfully follow, Christ the Saviour. That journey begins by laying our burden of sin & shame at the cross & embracing the salvation that Jesus offers. It means turning aside(repentance) from the broad path to Christ’s narrow way. It is who we enter the path through & who we walk the path with that ultimately matters. Choose life, Choose Christ, walk the narrow way each & every day. You know it makes sense. Lord Jesus, lead me & keep me in Your narrow way.

For Reflection

  • How aware of, & focussed upon, the paths that I am walking in my life am I?
  • How frequently, & in what ways, do I make decisions about the direction of travel in my life?
  • Meditate upon the narrow way & path of life available ’In Christ’.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You lead me in straight & secure paths,
The paths that lead to safety, shelter, security & life.
Jesus thank you that you are the way, the truth & the life,
Lead me & keep me in Your narrow way of life.
Holy Spirit keep me looking unto the Lord,
Listening for His voice & willingly following Him.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
