Train your Spiritual Senses
In the Old Testament the spiritual senses were heightened when the Spirit came upon people for purpose.
As Christians we have the immense privilege of the Spirit living within us permanently.
The Spirit can be in us & upon us & moving through us all at the same time. How good is that!!
This is why we are so well equipped to operate in our spiritual senses. We are fully resourced through God’s gracious generosity.
We have been looking at Ezekiel who was told to pay attention, look carefully & listen closely.
We have seen how we have to set our heart & fix our gaze to get heavenly perspective & divine revelation.
The third element of Ezekiel’s instructions was to listen closely. That will be out topic for today.
The Lord said to me, “Son of man, look carefully, listen closely and give attention to everything I tell you concerning all the regulations and instructions regarding the temple of the Lord. Give attention to the entrance to the temple and all the exits of the sanctuary. Ezekiel 44:5 NIV
Through his hearing ears (note we have 2) Ezekiel is to listen closely.
To carefully & fully tune in his spiritual hearing. Filtering out the many distractions of this world.
The word used implies hearken, understand, perceive & discern.
Ezekiel Is to fully focus on the audience of One so that he can hear clearly & understand.
We are to listen with understanding & discernment. We will then know God’s voice. SELAH
Ezekiel is to listen closely so that he can faithfully pass on all the Lord has to say to the people of Israel.
We need to be attentive, awake & alert so that we can accurately pass on the word of the Lord.
Active listeners so that we can be faithful witnesses for the Lord. Hearing clearly so that we can tell forth confidently.
If we are good listeners we will hear the Lord speak even in the still small voice of silence. SELAH
We have to listen closely to the Lord if we are to have something worthwhile to say to people & this world.
The great promise of Scripture is that we can hear & know the Lord’s beautiful loving voice (Isaiah 30:21; John 8:47; John 10:27).
God has given us both a hearing ear & a seeing eye & He expects us to use them.
They work best when we find stillness & peace in His presence.
God wants to speak to you so that you can pass on His love, light, life & truth to others.
He has blessed you with spiritual senses & He wants you to use them to be a blessing to others.
Actively listen in the audience of One. You will then hear the Lord speak. Hallelujah!!
- How effective is my spiritual hearing? Am I using my ears enough?
- In what ways am I seeking the audience of One so that I can hear God’s voice clearly?
- Meditate upon the need to listen intently to the Lord.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that You desire to communicate to me,
And that You are always speaking into my life.
Jesus open my ears to more clearly hear You calling me to follow You,
Strengthen & sharpen my spiritual hearing.
Holy Spirit help me to fix & focus my hearing fully & firmly upon the Lord,
Keep my seeking & receiving from the audience of One.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
