Tidings of comfort and Joy

As Christmas approaches let us consider afresh the wondrous story of God coming to dwell amongst us.
This is a story with an amazing cast – heavenly angels, a teenage virgin, a humble carpenter, lonely & lowly shepherds & powerful sages.
All journey to Bethlehem to the birthplace of the Son & Saviour – Jesus Christ.
All in different ways give homage & worship unto Jesus who is Immanuel – God with us.

So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1:22-23 NKJV

Angels announced Him, shepherds beheld & heralded Him, the Magi bowed down & worshipped Him.
Jesus, God in human flesh & form, dwelling in our neighbourhood (John 1:14). Wow what a wonder.
Wise men & women continue to do all these things today. SELAH
“The Son of God became a man to enable men to become the sons of God – C.S.Lewis”
Now that is great tidings of comfort & joy!!

God enabled this, & Jesus did this, because He came to save us from our sins (Matthew 1:21).
Jesus came to open up the way of Salvation – the great waymaker.
The promised Seed (Genesis 3:15) & Son (Isaiah 7:14) who came as Saviour (Luke 2:11).
God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:19).
What a mighty Saviour & what a wondrous salvation.

The story of how the Saviour came is truly incredible but it is more than just a story.
It is an eternal truth that can be experienced & encountered through Christ – the ever living one.
Behold today is the day of salvation & salvation is found in none but Christ.
Yield your life & heart like Mary, be fully obedient like the shepherds & surrender in worship like the wise men.
Experience God with you by coming unto Christ. Take full advantage of these tidings of comfort & joy. Hallelujah!!

For Reflection

  • How am I announcing, beholding, heralding & worshipping the Saviour Jesus Christ?
  • In what ways do I truly see myself as (become & becoming) a son of God?
  • Meditate upon the coming of our Saviour – ‘Immanuel’ God with us.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You were in Christ, reconciling the world to Yourself,
That you came as Immanuel – God with us.
Jesus, thank you that You came to save me from my sins,
That You are not just with me but living within me.
Holy Spirit help me to worship & witness to Jesus the saviour,
Keep me beholding Him with wonder so that I can keep powerfully making Him known.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
