The Goodness of God

Good is good all the time & all the time God is good. A mantra yes but so, so TRUE.
This is the consistent message of the Bible. The Lord alone is good (Matthew 19:17).
He is therefore the source & substance of all that is good & wholesome in this life & world.
In Psalm 65 David poetically describes the goodness, grace & greatness of our God.
We will continue exploring the Goodness of God today.

By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us,
O God of our salvation,
You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth,
And of the far-off seas;
Who established the mountains by His strength,
Being clothed with power;
You who still the noise of the seas,
The noise of their waves,
And the tumult of the peoples.
They also who dwell in the farthest parts are afraid of Your signs;
You make the outgoings of the morning and evening rejoice. Psalm 65:5-8 NKJV

David highlights how the Lord is the God of our salvation & the hope of all humanity. SELAH
Life is full of ups & downs, troubles & trials, successes & failures (John 16:33).
It is important that in the midst of all this we never lose sight of the goodness of God.
Whatever stage of life we are at, & whatever we are facing or experiencing, God is good. FULL STOP.
If we can’t see or feel the goodness of God then we need to keep on asking, seeking & knocking!!
God loves His beloved children so much that he even turns their suffering & struggles into something good (Romans 8:28).
The Great & Glorious God who alone can turn all things to good. Hallelujah!!
The goodness of God is forever desiring your highest welfare. Wow, how good is that!! SELAH

In this Psalm David is extolling the Lord’s bounty & blessing but there are times when it is hard to see or feel the goodness of God.
It is then that we must go on believing. Standing firm in faith until the Lord’s grace & goodness become evident.
Never forget that the Lord turned the Devil’s greatest evil into our eternal salvation & forever blessing.
That is the power & measure of the glorious goodness of God. SELAH
The one who crowns the year with goodness & whose paths drip with abundance (Psalm 65:11).
That is the beauty & bounty of our awesomely, abundantly good God. Hallelujah!!!
God is God – we sing & shout it. Come on!!

For Reflection

  • How am I maintaining a healthy focus upon & perspective about the goodness of God?
  • In what ways do I give thanks for the goodness of God in my life?
  • Meditate upon the how God works all things according to His purposes & for the good of those who love Him.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are eternally & forever good,
That you are the source & substance of all that is good & wholesome in this life.
Jesus, thank you that You work all things for my good according to Your purposes,
And that through Your great grace, goodness & love You died to save me.
Holy Spirit keep me rightly focussed upon the goodness of God,
And never let me lose sight of His great love & ceaseless care for me.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Amen
