The Goodness of God
Good is eternally & unchangingly good. It is part of His divine nature.
God is so good that His goodness is forever desiring our highest welfare.
So much so that He turns the bad or evil things we are experiencing to good (Romans 8:28).
So good that He died in our place. Our death for His life – how good is that!!
Whatever you are going through keep believing in & keep singing & shouting about the goodness of God.
In Psalm 65 David beautifully extols the abundant goodness of our God.
A final thought about that today.
You visit the earth and water it,
You greatly enrich it;
The river of God is full of water;
You provide their grain,
For so You have prepared it.
You water its ridges abundantly,
You settle its furrows;
You make it soft with showers,
You bless its growth.
You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.
They drop on the pastures of the wilderness,
And the little hills rejoice on every side.
The pastures are clothed with flocks;
The valleys also are covered with grain;
They shout for joy, they also sing. Psalm 65:9-13 NKJV
In this final section of Psalm 65 David highlights how the Lord’s goodness abundantly blesses creation.
The language used is full of bounty & blessing. The goodness of the God of abundance bringing life & fruitfulness to all creation.
Note how creation responds to such rich provision & bountiful blessing. Thankfulness & praise.
Gratitude & appreciation expressed through joyful exuberant rejoicing. SELAH
Creation sings & shouts in response to the providence of God’s goodness & so must we.
Wonderfully we have been blessed with speech to give voice to our thanks & praise.
The attitude of gratitude overflowing in joy filled thankfulness & praise.
A thankful & appreciative heart is the right & proper response to the abundant goodness of God. SELAH
If the goodness of God is so richly poured out on creation how much more does it extend to His beloved children?
Jesus makes it crystal clear that we are at the forefront (head of the queue) of God’s providence & blessings (Luke 12:24-28).
He uses the phrase – How much more!! Creation is bountifully blessed & richly provided for but the children of God even more so!!
Those ‘In Christ’ are the richly blessed recipients of the Father’s bountiful blessing & all-encompassing favour. SELAH
With such goodness & grace extended & overflowing to us what more could we ever want or need.
The goodness of God is more than enough. It abundantly provides & satisfies (Psalm 107:9; Isaiah 58:11). Hallelujah!!!
God is God to you CONSTANTLY – forever keep singing & shouting it with unending thanksgiving!!
- How am I maintaining the attitude of gratitude in response to God’s goodness?
- In what ways, & how frequently, am I pouring out thanks for the goodness of God in my life?
- Meditate upon how loved & valued by our heavenly Father we are.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that You are good & that Your goodness never changes,
That you are forever desiring my highest welfare.
Jesus, thank you that You are my Good Shepherd,
That you call me to follow You along paths of righteousness & peace.
Holy Spirit keep me forever grateful of the goodness of the Lord,
Give me daily strength to keep pouring out thankfulness & praise unto the Lord.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
