God’s Presence

Relationships are all about sharing someone else’s presence.
The Covid pandemic with all its social isolation reinforced how important it is to spend time with others.
Israel, the people of God, lived & longed for the presence of God.
It meant everything to them & they camped around the presence of God which dwelt in the tabernacle.
God had promised that His awesome presence would go with them as a people & a nation.
This TFD series will focus upon the presence of God.

Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight.
And consider that this nation is Your people.” And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. Exodus 33:13-15 NKJV

The presence of God was experienced & encountered because God dwelt in the midst of His people.
It was both an amazing privilege & an awesome prospect. SELAH
It was a source of great joy, pleasure & comfort (Psalm 16:11) but it also required the necessary awe & reverence (Exodus 20:18-19).
The holy presence of God meant His people required a proper & right respect. SELAH
It was something unique for the people of God & not to be taken lightly or for granted.
A place of great intimacy but also one of unimaginable power, authority & might!!!

The Scriptures reveal to us the differing ways through history that God has chosen to reveal His presence:

  • The tabernacle & then the temple
  • Jesus’s physical body through the incarnation
  • The Holy Spirit being poured out at Pentecost
  • The holy spiritual temple that God is now building in the Body of Christ (the Church)
  • God dwelling forever with His people in the New Creation.

We will consider each in turn over the coming days.

In our day, the presence of God is revealed to us & freely available through the Lord Jesus Christ.
He has made a way for us to have free & open access anytime & any place (Hebrews 10:19-23). Hallelujah!!
We are ever invited & always welcomed into God’s presence. How amazing is that. SELAH
Through Christ & ‘In Christ’ we have a great privilege & an awesome responsibility.
Like Moses, with His shining face, we are to radiate the presence & glory of God to others.
God’s presence is our birthright & inheritance so let us enter His presence with boldness, confidence & full assurance. SELAH
There is no better thing or no better place than the presence of the Lord!!

For Reflection

  • Am I bold & confident to seek & enter the presence of the Lord? |
  • In what ways am I experiencing intimacy in the presence of the Lord?
  • Meditate upon the awesomeness of God’s holy presence.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You call me & invite me to enter Your presence,
And that You have made a way through Christ Your Son & my Saviour.
Jesus, thank you for Your great sacrifice to save me,
That your death & resurrection has opened up a new & living way for me to fellowship with my heavenly
Holy Spirit cultivate in me a healthy appetite & a deep desire for the presence of the Lord,
May I radiate Your glory, goodness, grace & great love to those I meet & encounter.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
